(VOVworld) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on Wednesday held talks with Myanmar Parliament and Upper House Speaker Khin Aung Myint in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city. Hung also met with Lower House Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann and paid a courtesy visit to Myanmar President U Thein Sein.

During talks with Khin Aung Myint, Chairman Hung said Vietnamese people always keep in mind and respect Myanmar’s valuable support for Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation in the past and its current national development. The two top legislators expressed their belief that the signing of the cooperation agreement during this visit would serve as an important legal framework for enhancing bilateral ties. The two sides agreed to exchange delegations and experience in legislation, supervision and National Assembly related issues. They pledged to continue cooperating and supporting each other at international inter-parliamentary forums, especially the International Parliamentary Union and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. After the talks, the two leaders signed a cooperative agreement between the two legislative bodies.

Later in the day, Chairman Hung met with the Myanmar Lower House Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann. He congratulated Myanmar for electing the legislature and becoming a full member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Hung described the moves as new steps forward in Myanmar’s national reconciliation, development and international integration. Both leaders agreed to proactively implement the signed agreements and uphold existing mechanisms to forge closer ties.

Earlier, National Assembly Chairman Hung paid a courtesy visit to Myanmar President U Thein Sein. Hung reiterated Vietnam’s policy of respecting and boosting friendly and cooperative relationship with Myanmar. Both sides agreed to increase two-way trade turnover to at least 500 million USD in the years to come and create favorable conditions for both countries’ businesses to seek investment opportunities.
