(VOVworld)-Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has hailed the visit by Italian Defense Minister to Vietnam as significant in bilateral relations. He wished for more cooperation in international fora. Italian Defense Minister Giampaolo Di Paola said that Italy is willing to cooperate with Vietnam’s armed forces in ship building and training. Both agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security and maritime safety in the East Sea as well as peaceful settlement of conflicts based on international law, especially the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on Code of Conducts of Parties in the East Sea DOC and the building of COC. Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh was addressing a press briefing after talks with his Italian counterpart the same day: “The two ministries will sign a memorandum of understanding in national defense cooperation. Defense cooperation reflects mutual trust and promotes ties in other areas. This will ensure peace, stability and development in the world.”
