The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) concluded its Beijing summit on Thursday after 2 working days. State leaders from member countries signed 10 cooperation agreements and issued a joint statement.

They decided to grant Afghanistan observer status and accept Turkey as a dialogue partner. Russian citizen Dmitri Mezentsev was elected Secretary General of the Organization. In their joint statement, the member states opposed military intervention in the Near East and North Africa while calling for international respect of the UN Charter to ease regional tension. They emphasized on the necessary to end violence in Syria and protect the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
