(VOV) -United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Edmund Mullet is on an official visit to Vietnam until February 28th.

Meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Assistant Ha Kim Ngoc on Monday, Mullet hailed Vietnam’s active contributions to international peacekeeping efforts in recent years and expressed hopes that the country will involve itself further in the UN’s activities—especially in maintaining peace and international security.

For his part, Ngoc affirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization of external relations and active international integration.

Vietnam is keen to strengthen multilateral ties with the UN and is a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member in the international community, Ngoc said.

Mullet is scheduled to work with relevant ministries and agencies to help them effectively prepare for participating in any future UN peacekeeping campaigns.
