The Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet shared updates on the human rights situation in Vietnam, the devastating damage caused by typhoon Yagi in the country’s northern region, as well as the prompt response and recovery efforts by the Government. Deputy Minister Viet expressed sincere gratitude to countries, partners, and UN agencies for their support and solidarity.
He said that Vietnam has accepted 271, or 84.7%, of 320 recommendations made by countries during a dialogue on Vietnam's national report on human rights protection and promotion in May this year, the highest rate in four cycles. He reiterated Vietnam’s commitments to and consistent policy of protecting and promoting human rights, as well as its respect for the UPR mechanism and the Human Rights Council.
A comprehensive plan to implement the recommendations is expected to be developed and carried out with the involvement of all stakeholders in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation, according to Deputy Minister Viet. He said that Vietnam will continue to issue and revise important laws related to human rights and citizens’ rights.
The Deputy Foreign Minister said amnesty was granted to thousands of inmates this year, helping them to reintegrate into society and contribute to the community.
The adoption of the report will be followed by the implementation of recommendations.
