US Navy carrier strike group makes historic visit to Vietnam
(VOVWORLD) - A group of US navy ships with around 5,000 crew on board, arrived at Da Nang Bay on Monday for a five-day visit.
The USS Carl Vinson is the US Navy’s third Nimitz-class supercarrier launched in 1980. |
The ships include aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain and destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer.
During the visit, crew members will take part in a wide range of exchange activities with the Vietnam People’s Navy, as well as visit orphanages and centers for Agent Orange/Dioxin victims. The aircraft carrier will welcome military, press and Da Nang officials delegations.
Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson's crew members are welcomed in Da Nang on February 5, 2018. |
The visit actualizes the agreement reached in the joint statement issued during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November last year. It is seen as a further step in strengthening Vietnam-US ties in line with their comprehensive partnership.
