(VOVworld) - The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) has lodged a complaint against the US Department of Commerce via the US International Trade Commission over its imposition of duties on Vietnam’s warm-water shrimp.
Nguyen Huu Dung, VASEP Vice President, said 31 out of 32 shrimp exporters lodged a joint complaint with the US ITC on Monday. The exporters will submit their testimony in the lead-up to the 9th review period.
According to a DOC decision reached during its eighth review period from February 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, a high level of tariffs will be applied to 32 Vietnamese shrimp exporters. The duties will be 4.98% for Minh Phu Seafood Company, 9.75% for Soc Trang Seafood Company, and 6.37% for 30 other companies.
To reduce their dependence on the US market, Dung urged shrimp exporters to manage their supply chains better and seek new markets.
