Vietnam has made significant progress in child labour prevention and elimination in recent times. The child labour rate in Vietnam has dropped year after year. The rate fell from 15.5% in 2012 to 9.1% in 2018.

To reduce child labour, the Vietnamese government has focused on universal education, literacy incentives, and equal access to education for ethnic children, children with disabilities, and children from poor or disadvantaged families.

Social policies have been strengthened, poverty reduction policies have given priority to children, and Government programs and cooperation with international partners have been promoted.

Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that Vietnam has focused on the prevention, reduction, and elimination of child labour and encouraged the engagement of the public and raise awareness among families, communities, businesses, and schools.

“It’s necessary for all stakeholders to work closely to protect children from hard, toxic, and dangerous forms of labour,” Ha noted.

As Vietnam integrates into the global economy by implementing many new- generation free trade agreements, it has strictly adhered to international labour standards, including commitments to preventing, reducing, and eliminating all forms of child labour.
