As Vietnam will defend its national report on the Covenant in the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review next July, the conference was a good opportunity for the Ministry of Justice, other ministries, and sectors to improve the report.
Addressing the conference, Major General Nguyen Van Ky, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the Government's Human Rights Steering Committee, said the Vietnamese Party and State have a consistent stance on ensuring and promoting human rights.
Vietnam’s achievements in human rights over the past 40 years have shown that the guidelines and policies of the Party and State are for the people, making people the center and beneficiaries of development.
According to Major General Ky, Vietnam is gearing up to achieve the goals set out by the 13th National Party Congress resolution, which affirms that people are the center and subject of national renovation and defense. All policies and guidelines originate from the aspirations, rights, and legitimate interests of the people and make people’s happiness and prosperity the goal to strive for.
