(VOVworld)- The 9^th Asia Europe Meeting concluded in Vientiane, Laos on Wednesday. Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said the Vietnamese delegation led by the Prime Minister fully participated in the meeting’s activities and closely coordinated with the host and other members contributing to the overall success. Deputy Minister Son said PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s two initiatives about organizing summits on natural disaster prevention and climate change relief” and an ASEM conference on the management of water and river basins towards green growth, were adopted at the summit. Son said Vietnam coordinated with Laos and other members to reach consensus on several important issues. Vietnam proposed practical initiatives to harmonize interests and increase consensus in boosting economic cooperation, changing the growth model, developing a green economy and strengthening regional and inter-regional connections and Mekong Sub-region cooperation.

At the discussion on “Global issues”, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung proposed renewing the approach to deal with global issues based on a long-term multi-sector vision, and measures to ensure ASEM’s effective contribution to global efforts in ensuring food security, dealing with climate change, protecting the environment, reducing poverty and securing gender equality. ASEM members praised Vietnam’s active role in maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region. As a proactive and responsible member, Son said, Vietnam has reaffirmed its role and position at this year’s summit with practical and effective contributions to boosting Asia-Europe relations and joining efforts with other members to recover economies, deal with global challenges, and maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development on the two continents. On the sidelines of the summit, PM Dung and his entourage met with leaders of other ASEM member nations, including Japan, Australia and Finland. They discussed ways to boost friendship and multifaceted cooperation, especially in economics and trade.
