The Dominican Republic is eager to strengthen diplomatic ties with Vietnam, he said during talks with the Vietnamese Government leader in Santo Domingo on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Chinh highlighted similarities between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic including complimentary economies; rich and distinctive cultures; important geopolitical positions; and high-level political trust. These are crucial foundations for advancing bilateral cooperation to a new level, said Mr. Chinh.

The Prime Minister proposed that the two sides accelerate negotiations to sign a free trade agreement as well as agreements on investment promotion and protection; cultural, educational, and training cooperation; and ordinary visa exemption.

The leaders discussed measures to expand existing cooperation agreements and enhance collaboration in defense, telecommunications, oil and gas, tourism, and other potential fields.

Vietnam will serve as a bridge for cooperation between the Dominican Republic and ASEAN, while the Dominican Republic will help connect Vietnam and South America.
