(VOVWORLD) - A high-level policy dialogue took place in Hanoi on Monday to promote international cooperation and multi-sectoral coordination for circular agriculture.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the role of the circular economy for the development goals in agriculture, to implement the newly approved project on technology transfer to promote circular economy in agriculture until 2030, and to put forth solutions on mechanisms and policies for circular economic development in Vietnam.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that developing a circular economy in agriculture is a requirement, an inevitable trend, and a solution for sustainable and effective agricultural development.
He added that this conference introduces Vietnamese models and the role models from the world for Vietnam to learn from.
“I believe that it’ll be the basis for strengthening multilateral cooperation and multi-sectoral coordination to propose and implement specific activities in linking the circular agriculture chain as committed by the Prime Minister that Vietnam will achieve net zero emissions by 2050,” said Tien.
UNDP Viet Nam Resident Representative Ramla Khalidi, the co-host of the event, said that the dialogue is a testament to Vietnam’s commitment to transforming agriculture in a way that protects the environment and boosts innovation and competitiveness.
“This will not only support the regeneration of natural eco-systems, but it will also assure tangible improvements in people’s livelihood opportunities,” said Ramla.
On this occasion, UNDP announced its upcoming research on the coffee and rice value chain in collaboration with the Vietnamese agencies to develop new integrated measures for a circular, low-carbon agri-food value chain.
