Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc receives Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific (VNA)

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made a statement during a reception for Shin Young-soo, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, in Hanoi on Tuesday.

PM Phuc asked the WHO to increase technical and financial support and mobilize resources from development partners for Vietnam.

Shin said Vietnam has had impressive achievements in health care. Though Vietnam’s per capita income is about 2,000 USD, many of its accomplishments, especially the average longevity, are comparable to countries with a per capita income of 20,000 USD. He said he hopes the Vietnamese government will continue improving the healthcare system and expanding the number of people with health insurance.
