Vietnam marks 50th African Day

(VOVworld) – The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) today/ on Friday hosted a commemoration to mark the 50th African Day on May 25th, with the intention of bolstering cooperation between Vietnam and African nations. Present were Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, VUFO President Vu Xuan Hong, and representatives from Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Libya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan. Hua Duc Nhi, President of the Vietnam-Africa Friendship and Cooperation Association, spoke at the ceremony: " Cooperation over past decades has demonstrated that Vietnam and African countries have mutual advantages to help each other develop further. Africa can provide material, fuel, services, manpower, and investment for Vietnam and has great potential in diversifying Vietnam’s export market. Both sides have signed a number of agreements and decrees, which have created a relatively firm legal framework towards a more comprehensive trade relationship".

The Algerian ambassador to Vietnam, Cherif Chiki, on behalf of other African representatives, said that Vietnam and Africa have seen closer ties develop out of multilateral cooperation for the benefit of all the people. Chikhi told reporters: " We promise that Vietnam and the African countries will always move forward together for development and progress. This solidarity has strongly accelerated during the 2 Vietnam-African forums. Our countries can make better use of complementarity in different fields. We can also implement mechanism of the economic experience exchange on both sides. These objectives will always be mutually beneficial in particularly in globally economic context of crisis".  

In the last three years, Vietnam-Africa trade revenue surged to more than 1.8 billion USD. Vietnamese businesses have poured a 1.2 billion USD investment into the continent in terms of oil and gas exploration, motorbike and farming machinery manufacturing, and telecommunication services.
