At the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Korea Trần Trọng Toàn highlighted the event’s great significance as a centerpiece of Vietnam-South Korea Friendship Year 2012, which marks 20 years of diplomatic ties. Ambassador Toàn said that during the past 20 years Vietnam and South Korea have developed a multifaceted cooperation including culture. Vietnamese people have embraced the Korean cultural wave known as Hallyu, which is featured in Korean dramas, music, fashion, and cuisines. And Korean people are equally enthusiastic about Vietnamese art and culture. The opening ceremony featured both Vietnamese and Korean art performances by Vietnamese artists.
