Vietnam’s greater role in preserving international peace and stability

(VOVworld) – The Foreign Ministry held a conference in Hanoi on Thursday to mark the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day on September 2nd, and the 70th anniversary of the foreign affairs sector.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said over the past 70 years the diplomatic sector has consistently followed President Ho Chi Minh’s Thoughts on Diplomacy that is to love peace and unite with foreign friends. The orientation has helped Vietnam make great achievements in the struggle for national independence, construction, and development.

Mr. Minh dealt into the sector’s missions in the new period: “Vietnam will further enhance its international integration process, make its foreign relations more efficient, and develop ties with more partner and traditional nations. In regards of multilateral diplomacy, Vietnam will continue to be a key, proactive, and responsible member of ASEAN and other mechanisms, especially the UN.”

Meeting participants who are ambassadors and representatives of international organizations agreed that Vietnam has upheld a friendly diplomacy and contributed to regional peace, stability, and prosperity. Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong saidVietnam has firmly pursued a foreign policy of independence and self-reliance for peace, cooperation, and development, openness, diversification, and multi-lateralization of international relations. As a UN member, Vietnam has proactively participated in cooperative mechanisms within the UN framework. Vietnam has continuously supported developing countries, protected common interests, enhanced justice, equality, and international cooperation for development.”
