(VOVworld) - The Vietnamese Embassy in the United States hosted a ceremony on Tuesday night to mark Vietnam’s 67th National Day on September 2. Present were the US Deputy Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy, the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia-Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, and representatives from ASEAN countries and the overseas Vietnamese community.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong told the attendees that Vietnam has become a dynamic market with a population of 90 million at the heart of the world’s fastest growing region. He added Vietnam has been successful with its reforms and will continue this process. Ambassador Cuong also talked about the Vietnam-US relations: “This year alone, several US senior officials, including Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Trade Representative Ron Kirk visited Vietnam. This vividly demonstrates the scope and pace of development of bilateral ties. Vietnam and the US share several common strategic interests and know how to work together on a constructive and cooperative way to deal with pending issues.”

In response, Kurt Campbell said he believed in the US-Vietnam ties and reconfirmed the US commitment to the Asia-Pacific region.
