(VOVworld) – Ninh Moc Sau in Quang Ninh province knows how to grasp opportunities to become better off. Sau, of San Chi ethnicity, is a good example of those who always move forward to overcome difficulties.
Sau uses the front of her simple house as a grocery store, which gives her enough money to pay for food and her children’s education. However, Sau said, she is not happy with that: “Unlike others, we don’t grow anything. We raise pigs and make tofu and wine. We don’t want to be poor, we want to save money for our children.”
Sau said that the soil is not good for cultivation so she decided to raise pigs and wild boars. Sau was the first person to raise wild boars in her area. She had to borrow money from her relatives and friends to buy some breeds. Fortunately, these wild boars are not difficult to raise. Sau said: “I feed them cassava, sweet potato leaves and banana trunks. I have to grow vegetables for the boars.”
Sau now has some sows and about 30 boars waiting to be sold during the traditional lunar new year festival. Therefore, Sau and her husband are busy every day. She said: “I have to wake up at 4AM to boil water and slaughter the pigs for my husband to sell in Mong Cai city. Then I make wine, sell tofu, tend the pigs, and cook for our children. I also buy vegetables and fish and resell them. We earn between 10 and 20 USD a day”
Nguyen Van Hoan, Chairman of Bac Son commune’s People’s Committee, said: “Sau’s business is a good economic model, which can provide an income of up to 2,000 USD a year. Some households in the commune have also begun to raise wild boars.”
Though they have not become wealthy, Sau and her husband are always willing to share their experience. They have even given their neighbors loans without any interest. Sau has used her savings to expand her business and raise more boars. Currently Sau has to buy breeds from Lang Son province but she plans to produce the breeds herself for future supply in her area.
