77 years have passed but memories of the August Revolution are still fresh in Huynh Van Guong’s mind.
Guong was born in 1923 in Thanh Phu district in the southern province of Ben Tre. At the age of 22, he joined the revolution and since then has dedicated his life to the Communist Party of Vietnam and the army.
“I was inspired by President Ho Chi Minh’s saying ‘Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.’At that time, every Vietnamese eagerly joined the uprising against the French colonialists and fought for freedom,” Guong recalled.

Following the success of the August Revolution, Guong served in different units of the Vietnam People’s Army. Later, Guong became Chairman of Chau Thanh district’s War Veterans Association, Chairman of Binh Duc commune’s Association of the Elderly, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Binh Duc commune.

“I will always be loyal and dedicated to the Communist Party. I still visit other areas and encourage the local children to study hard and contribute to the homeland,” said Guong.

Over the year Guong has remained dedicated to Party building, developing the district’s Veterans Association, and teaching the younger generation about patriotism.

“Guong has been a role model in his family and the locality. Despite his age, he actively participated in communications, social work, and Party activities,” said Ho Doan Anh Dung, Chairman of Binh Duc commune’s War Veterans Association.

Huynh Van Guong has received many certificates of merit, and insignias from the Party, State, and army for his dedication and contribution to the revolution.
