(VOVworld) – 38-year-old Tran Thanh Thanh in Binh Thoi commune, Ben Tre province, has been generating electricity from wind power for daily use. His power generator has been patented and received a number of awards in Vietnam. Nhat Truong reports:
Thanh is called “Thanh wind power” by the people in his neighborhood. He began to make his electricity generator using wind power in 2011. He first experimented on bicycles by using the movements of the wheels to generate power for lighting. He then thought of the abundant source of wind power in Ben Tre, which can be used to generate a more powerful electricity source. Thanh was determined to produce a wind-powered generator from simple materials. Thanh said: “We needed electricity for daily use when there were power cuts. That’s why I decided to generate electricity from wind power.”
Thanh’s power generator is a fan made from 4 propellers, each 80cm long and 30cm wide, and a wind vane. The propellers are attached to turbines, batteries, and a power transformer, which are all connected to bulbs. Thanh put his power generator on the rooftop to get wind to produce electricity for lighting and even his refrigerator during the day. Thanh made his power generator at a cost of 500 USD. Vo Duy Sang, Secretary of Binh Thoi commune’s Youth Union, said: “Thanh is a creative man. His model of a power generator is very useful and produces clean energy. It will be of great use for people in remote areas who have not been connected to the national power grid.”
In 2014 Thanh found some problems with his power generator. The structure of the machine with its 4 propellers is not eye-catching and when there is a strong wind, the axis is askew to one side, leading to unstable power. He decided to produce a pumpkin-shaped machine of 10 propellers at a cost of 700 USD, which is more effective. Although many people in his neighborhood and his friends want to buy Thanh’s machine, he has not taken any orders. He plans to apply for a patent before mass production. Thanh said: “I plan to open a company or a workshop in order to produce more power generators. I’m having financial problems so I hope some investors will help me continue my work.”
