(VOVWORLD) - Writer Son Tung, who penned the famous novel Bup sen xanh (Green Lotus) based on the life of President Ho Chi Minh, has passed away at the age of 93. Tung dedicated his career to writing about President Ho Chi Minh and promoting his image to the world.

Son Tung was born Bui Son Tung in 1928 in the central province of Nghe An – Ho Chi Minh's hometown. Tung joined revolutionary activities at the age of 16 and was a Party member for 70 years. During his long life, he wrote many works about President Ho Chi Minh and is considered the pre-eminent author on the subject.
“Son Tung has written the most notable works about President Ho Chi Minh. His most popular work Green Lotus follows the life of Ho Chi Minh from his childhood up to the age of 20 or 30 in a vivid, moving way. Ho Chi Minh is depicted as a great role model for the younger generation,” said writer Nguyen Ngoc Tien.
Green Lotus has been translated into several foreign languages and was adapted for a movie. Another work, Bup sen vang (Yellow Lotus), also focuses on the childhood and youth of Ho Chi Minh, who was called Nguyen Sinh Cung during the time he lived with his parents in Hue.
Other works about Ho Chi Minh written by Son Tung include “Teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh in Duc Thanh school”, “Nguyen Ai Quoc in the memories of a Russian mother”, “From Sen village”, “By the window”, “Memories of May”, and “Remember the source”.
The Literature Publishing House has published a collection of stories and memoirs about President Ho Chi Minh which were also the last literary works about the President written by Son Tung.
“The death of veteran writer Son Tung is a great loss for us. He was a great example of strong will. Despite the war wounds he suffered, Son Tung still managed to write many great works about President Ho Chi Minh,” said writer and war veteran Dang Vuong Hung.

In 2011, former President Nguyen Minh Triet bestowed the title of Labor Hero on Son Tung for his contribution to the cause of national construction and defense.
“Son Tung not only researched and wrote about President Ho Chi Minh, but also followed the moral example of President Ho Chi Minh. He led a simple life and got on well with everyone. He always fought against bad deeds and did his best to bring happiness to everyone,” said Mr. Triet.
