3,000 young volunteers in Hanoi formed the symbol of Earth Hour at a ceremony to launch the campaign at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology on March 5. They took part in a running and cycling event on March 12 and have helped to persuade people and agencies in Hanoi to turn off electric lights on March 19. Nguyen Khanh Thanh, President of Green4 Life club and head of the coordinating team for Earth Hour 2016 in Hanoi, said: “This year’s theme is “Small action, Big meaning”. Our message to the community is we should save not only electricity but also other resources like water and food. We should develop the habit of not littering to the environment. Such small actions will lead to a greener and healthier environment.”

Every afternoon 300 students in Bac Ninh city take part in a flashmob to spread the message of environmental protection. Many students said taking part in the Earth Hour campaign is a new and interesting experience as it helps them learn more about environmental protection. Nguyen Thi Lan, President of Hai Au blub at Bac Ninh school for gifted students, said: “The campaign helps me realize how we use electricity every day and that energy conservation is needed to protect the environment. I hope everyone will save energy and together we will protect Vietnam’s resources.”
