Da Lat is an ideal place for many kinds of fruits to grow, including strawberries, thanks to its temperate climate. Da Lat’s farmers have shifted from their traditional method of growing strawberries within rows in the ground to a new model of hanging strawberry gardens with hydroponic method. With this method, strawberries are grown in baskets hung at 1 meter high above the ground, watered and fertilized by a piped drip irrigation system. This has significantly improved Da Lat strawberries’ quality as it prevents rats, pests, and the use of pesticides in the growing process. The Biofresh Company is a pioneer in this model and its strawberry farm next to the Lake of Sighs has become a not-to miss destination for tourists to Da Lat. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, the company’s director, said: "These budding strawberries are 1-week old and were imported from France. When they are small, we use sun protection netting to help them shield from scorching sunlight. When they get bigger, their stems will be put into different soil baskets for multiplication."

Strawberries are well taken care of at the greenhouses where night temperatures are always kept between 14 and 18 Degree Celsius. Visitors to Da Lat no longer have to go to the markets to buy strawberries for their relatives and friends as they can collect strawberries right at the many strawberry farms in Da Lat, eat them fresh or bring them home as they wish. Nguyen Thi Diem My, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, told VOV: "My friends and I love to visit strawberry farms like this where we are introduced to the farming process and techniques, as well as how to take care of the plants, such as pulling out the stubs when harvesting and avoid touching the body of the strawberries. It’s good to be sure those strawberries are grown without pesticides and we can eat them fresh at the garden."

This strawberry farm model is being multiplied in Da Lat with those of Nguyen Thanh Trung in ward 9 and Nguyen Lam Thanh at Da Phu Road to name but a few. This eco-friendly model of strawberry growing has brought high economic efficiency for many farm owners in Da Lat while contributing to promoting the local tourism industry, according to Nguyen Thach Sang of Bac Lieu Travel Company: "Da Lat tourist products are various and the city is especially well-known for its many fresh flowers and fruits. Visiting strawberry farms has become a popular tour for visitors to the city who love bio-fruits."
