Children learn about environmental protection and recycling plastic waste.

Organizing summer classes at Nguyen Dinh Chieu primary school in Ia Rve border commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province, young volunteers help local pupils review what they have learned during the last academic year. The lessons are accompanied with games making children enjoy their time with the volunteers. Ms. Cam Thi Nga, of Hamlet 4, whose child is participating in the class, said parents are happy because their children love going to class with the young volunteers.

Ms. Nga said: “My child said she likes the young volunteers very much. They teach and play with the children. The activities are fun and helpful for the children.”

Summer classes of young volunteers

These summer classes are part of the Summer Volunteer Youth Campaign in Ea Sup district. 80 volunteers were divided into groups to join with children in various activities. They also helped local people clean up the environment and plant trees, and disseminated information about disease prevention.

Trang Nguyet Que, a young volunteer in Ia Rve commune, said that after a busy year studying at her university, she spent 2 summer months participating in volunteer activities for the community. Ms. Que said: “I’m very happy. By participating in volunteer activities, I feel that I have contributed my part to help the locals. We tell people how to prevent dengue fever. I teach children how to speak confidently in public.”

The young volunteers cut bushes along the roads

In Ia Lop commune, young volunteers of Binh Duong province are carrying out a project called "Lighting up rural roads.” They have also provided free medical exams and medicine, given water purifiers to 20 families, taught the children, and disseminated information about epidemic prevention and control. They cleaned roads and repaired roads and canals.

Mr. Lang Van Son, Chairman of the People's Council of Ia Lop commune, said: “The volunteers have helped us a lot. They organized many social activities for children which have been very interesting and useful for them.”

Since June, Dak Lak has deployed youth volunteer squads in all 15 districts, towns, and cities in the province. These squads have helped repair 73km of roads, installed lights for 43 streets, build 14 charity houses and 14 playgrounds for children. They have provided post-COVID-19 health exams for thousands of people and have planted tens of thousands of trees.

Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Chairwoman of the Central Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization said: “Young volunteers in Dak Lak have closely followed the plans and directions of the Central Youth Union. They have provided post-COVID-19 health exams and psychological counseling for youth union members and children. They have helped build and repair school toilets. The volunteers have contributed to digital transformation.”
