Established in 1949, the Voice of Vietnam Enssemle, now the VOV Theatre, has grown along with the development of the Voice of Vietnam.

VOV Theatre was established on December 15, 1949. The theater has accompanied ups and downs of different periods of Vietnam’s history. The Theater's talented artists and musicians have put on a number of great productions, contributing to the development of Vietnamese music. During the resistance wars, generations of artists from VOV Theater went around the country overcoming several hardships to serve the revolution and the public nationwide. Their songs and music greatly encouraged soldiers in the battlefields and people in the labor force. People’s Artist Phan Muon has worked at VOV Theater for more than 40 years: “When I was young, I often listened to songs broadcast by VOV on the public loudspeakers. Then, I nurtured a dream to become a VOV artist. Since working for VOV Theater, my colleagues and I have performed many music shows. I still remember the music shows we performed for soldiers on the Truong Sa archipelago. VOV artists were warmly welcomed by the soldiers and islanders. We are always happy to bring music to the people”.

70th anniversary of VOV Theatre.

Pham Tuyen is one of well-known artists at VOV Theater. Having worked at VOV since 1958, many of Pham Tuyen’s songs are very familiar to generations of Vietnamese people like“Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air”, “Truong Son Stick”,  and “We have Uncle Ho with us on Victory Day”,  which have touched the hearts of millions of Vietnamese people. Pham Tuyen said music comes to him naturally from the simple things in life: “Some people say I wrote history with music but I used music as a weapon during the war. When I was working at the Voice of Vietnam, I closely watched the footsteps of liberation soldiers. On April 28, a pilot bombed the Tan Son Nhat airport and I thought of the liberation of Sai Gon. I wrote the song “We have Uncle Ho with us on Victory Day”.

Recently, 4 artists from VOV Theater were among 400 artists to receive the title of “People’s Artist”. VOV President Nguyen The Ky said: “VOV  Theater boasts a rich music tradition. Its orchestras perform semi-classical music, folk music and contemporary music. VOV Theater's music is brought to the public through programs broadcast on VOV”.

 In modern times, the young generation of VOV artists continues the tradition to preserve and promote the music of Vietnam.
