(VOVWORLD) - As War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, July 27, is approaching, activities have been held nationwide to show gratitude to martyrs, war invalids, ailing soldiers, revolutionary contributors, and their families. The move demonstrates the Party, State and society's concern for those with meritorious services.

Since the beginning of this month, the Departments of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of many localities have organized visits to Hanoi and President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum for heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded soldiers, ailing soldiers, and the relatives of those who rendered great services to the nation. For veterans, this is a practical and meaningful tribute by local governments.
A number of wounded and ailing soldiers from Nam Dinh and Tra Vinh provinces are moved to say that they feel they are cared for both physically and spiritually. This has motivated them to overcome illness and life difficulties.
Meanwhile the Vietnam Martyr Families Support Association has been organizing tribute programs, including text messaging to pay gratitude to martyrs, incense offerings at martyrs' cemeteries, and presenting gratitude houses, gifts, and savings books to revolutionary contributors and their relatives.
“I hope this year’s program will raise up to 198,000 USD to partly help the relatives of martyrs secure housing. We also try to reduce the number of unidentified graves among 530,000 fallen martyrs and search for additional 180,000 missing martyrs,” Lieutenant General Hoang Khanh Hung, the Association’s Chairman, said.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs plans to work closely with ministries, sectors and localities to offer preferential policies and incentives to revolutionary contributors and mobilize all social resources for tribute movements.
Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan said that specific activities have been deployed and 77 delegates with outstanding meritorious deeds from all over the country will be honored this year.
Paying gratitude to revolutionary contributors and their relatives demonstrates the Vietnamese tradition of "Drinking water, remember the source."
