One of the major fishing grounds of the Tonkin Gulf, Bach Long Vy has attracted hundreds of fishing vessels from south central provinces to fish or take refuge from storms.
Located more than 130 km from the mainland, the services provided by the island district for fishing vessels have improved, especially regarding the supply of gasoline, fresh water, food, fishing equipment and materials, and ship repair.
Bach Long Vy Port is under construction and will accommodate nearly 20,000 ships to anchor and shelter from storms, trade seafood, refuel, and restock food and fresh water. Many projects supporting the development of fishery logistics services are being implemented.

Tran Quang Tuong, Secretary of the Bach Long Vy Party Committee, said: “We will invest in projects to build a port and a storm shelter area and supply electricity, freshwater, ice, petrol, food and fishing tools.”
In addition to upgrading fishery logistics facilities, Bach Long Vy's authorities have coordinated with the Border Guard and Coast Guard to outline plans and rehearse natural disaster prevention and rescue scenarios at sea. A great number of fishing boats have received support in machinery and towing to safe areas.
Bach Long Vy, which used to lack fresh water and was known only as a place for fishermen to drop in for shelter from heavy rains or storms has now been equipped with a system of locks, wharves, freshwater reservoirs, and preliminary processing facilities. These are the foundations for the island to become a fishery logistics and search and rescue center.
