At the end of July, Ho Chi Minh City had 12 new schools. This will be the first academic year when secondary school students in Binh Tri Dong B ward of Binh Tan district will no longer have to go to a neighboring ward to study.
Principal Ho Thanh Danh said his school will accommodate 660 students in 16 classes.
“The new school’s 36 classrooms are fully equipped with televisions and interactive sound systems. Its large library, physics, chemistry, and biology labs, and music, art, and computer technology rooms create the best conditions for teachers and students,” said Danh.
The new Le Van Phien primary school in Tan Thoi Nhi commune, Hoc Mon district, has modern classrooms, a dining area, a swimming pool, and a sports field. It will conduct two sessions per day.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Education and Training Section of Hoc Mon district, said, “The new Le Van Phien primary school has 30 classrooms and functional rooms. The spacious, modern school will serve students who live in Tan Thoi Nhi and neighboring communes.”

Ngo Van Tuyen, Head of the Education and Training Section of Binh Tan district, says Binh Tan has always had some of the highest class enrollments in HCMC. In the 2024-2025 school year, it expects to enroll 26,000 primary students.
The district’s 7 new schools include 1 kindergarten, 5 primary schools, and 1 secondary school with more than 200 new classrooms, bringing the total number of classrooms in Binh Tan to 4,000.
“At the primary school level, we are moving pupils from schools with 2,000 pupils or more into new schools. In the upcoming school year, the number of students attending a “two sessions per day” school will increase from 52% to 62% at the primary level and from 38% to 48% at the secondary level,” said Tuyen.
From now until the end of this year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to build 6 new schools – in District 4, and Binh Thanh, Binh Tan, Nha Be, Hoc Mon, and Binh Chanh district. During the academic year, 280 more classrooms will be added.
The municipal Department of Education and Training says it will continue to work with local departments and sectors to build more schools.
Districts are required to review and register additional educational projects for the medium-term public investment plan until 2025, based on which municipal authorities can speed up implementation of their current 4,500-classroom project.
