Whenever Tet approaches, a movement to take care of disadvantaged people gears up in Son La province. People from all walks of life pitch in to help poor ethnic families have a happy Tet.

Moc Chau district has 4,600 poor and near-poor households, 500 policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors, and 200 orphans, disabled people, and homeless elderly. During the days just before Tet, delegations visit and present Tet gifts to people in remote communes.

Nguyen Thi Hoa, Deputy Chairwoman of the Moc Chau district People’s Committee, said: “First we must ensure a safe Tet holiday with a focus on social security for all. More than 21,000 USD has been spent on rice for poor households unable to escape poverty, households affected by storms and flooding, and ethnic households.

"We came to every needy household to deliver Tet gifts. This Tet, the Vietnam Contemporary Art Theatre will perform for free in remote ethnic areas, which is followed by an Air Balloon Festival. We hope these activities will create a joyful, warm atmosphere for ethnic people in Moc Chau district.”

Trang Thi Xo of Coc hamlet, who recently received 10 kilos of rice from the Moc Chau authorities, said: “My family receives rice every year. I’m glad because it means we can make Chung cakes for Tet.”

Following the theme "The entire country helps the poor – nobody is left behind", Dak Lak province has organized several activities to assure the poor a happy Lunar New Year.

Pham Phuong, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, says local authorities and organizations have spent more than 170,000 USD to deliver gifts to poor households and orphans.

“The administrations of districts and villages have been asked to prepare detailed plans for delivering Tet gifts to poor people. A survey has been conducted to identify and provide food aid to households facing hunger. Social beneficiaries have been assured extra money for Tet so that nobody will have an unhappy Tet,” said Phuong.

The Nghe An Provincial Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs gave more than 50,000 gifts worth more than 770,000 USD, purchased with state funds and donations from businesses and social organizations. 900 poor households and victims of natural disasters have received 55 tons of rice for Lunar New Year 2019.
