(VOVWORLD) - Thai Nguyen province has 142 specifically disadvantaged hamlets, many of which have had limited access to communications service. The locality has coordinated with network providers to install cell sites and expand phone coverage, thus promoting digital transformation in ethnic minority areas. Thai Nguyen hopes to provide phone service to all remote areas in the province this year.

27 Mong ethnic households in Na Sang hamlet in Phu Luong district had had no mobile phone coverage and Internet access until a cell site was installed in the locality late last year.
Hoang Van Hung, a Na Sang resident, said, “The station has given villagers IT access. It’s easier now to contact someone when you need help.”
Na Sang people now can keep up to date with Party guidelines and State policies and technological advances, learn about new economic models to boost production, and complete transactions more easily.
According to Hoang Van Binh, Secretary of the Na Sang hamlet Party Cell, it’s easier to do business when the telecommunication network is available.
"In the morning when I go to the fields to pick tea leaves, for example, I can call buyers to ask how many kilos they need, and buyers can call me to place their order,” said Binh.
In Thai Nguyen’s remote areas, the terrain is broken and mobile phone connections are unstable. To improve the situation Thai Nguyen authorities have worked with service providers to install base transceiver stations (BTSs) in disadvantaged hamlets like Vo Nhai, Dong Hy, Dinh Hoa, and Phu Luong.
Nguyen Quoc Huu, Secretary of Phu Luong district’s Party Committee, said that now people across Phu Luong can use phones for business transactions, e-commerce, and following Party guidelines and State policies.
Thai Nguyen province will work to commercialize 4G and 5G mobile networks and smart phone services by 2025.
BTSs have already been installed in many hard-to-reach areas. 99.5% of all hamlets now have broadband Internet and 99.3% have mobile broadband Internet or 4G service.
Luu Quang Tuan, Head of the Infrastructure Section of Viettel Thai Nguyen Military Telecommunications Company, said, “Last year, Viettel and Thai Nguyen jointly participated in a digital transformation program. We have deployed 52 BTSs, many in remote and isolated areas.”
Thai Nguyen will soon complete installing cell sites in disadvantaged areas to make the province one of the 15 leaders in digital transformation in Vietnam by 2025.
