Vietnam took on hostsThailand in the opening match of the AFC U19 Women’s Championship 2019 on Sunday. Both sides went on attack but failed to score in the first half. Vietnam went up 1-0 in the 58th minute on a penalty kick by Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan.

Ngan Thi Van Su fired a close range shot in extra timeto seal a 2-0 win.

“My team played well but Vietnam played better. We created many chances but failed to score. We need to be more flexible. We will find out solutions,” Arun told reporters during the post-match pressbriefing.

“The opening match’s outcome was not good, of course. But we still have two more matches ahead. We must fight hard and be confident. I hope that my team will advance to the next stage,” he added.

Vietnam will face North Korea, group A’s strongest team, on Wednesday.
