Thailand’s ultimate goal at the AFC U23 Championship 2020 is a berth at the Tokyo Olympic Games next summer, said Football of Thailand Association (FAT) President Somyot Poompanmoung.

The draw for the AFC U23 Championship 2020 in Thailand on Thursday found Vietnam in a comfortable group with North Korea, Jordan and the UAE while Thailand U23 drew into the group of death.

“I can't evaluate every team or group as they  all have their own strengths. The most important thing for Thailand is maintaining their concentration and spirit. Thailand should not focus too much on who their rivals are. They should be determined and do their best,” said Somyot.

“Thailand’s ultimate aim is to win a ticket to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This will be a difficult task. What the U23 team need most now is support from the fans,” the FAT president added.

AFC U23 Championship 2020 will take place between Jan 8 and 26. Sixteen teams are divided into 4 groups, and 2 best out of groups will qualify for the next round. The top 3 will get a berth in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
