An array of activiites to mark Hanoi's 60th liberation anniversary

(VOVworld) – Various activities are underway to mark Hanoi’s 60th liberation anniversary on October 10th.

Main streets in Hanoi have been beautifully decorated with flags, colored lights, panels, and flower arrangements. The square in front of the Ly Thai To statue has become a public stage for many performances including a show to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Hanoi’s UNESCO recognition as “The city for peace”. A festival of Hanoi’s traditional craft villages will also open at Quan Ngua stadium.

Radio the Voice of Vietnam broadcast a live special program on Thursday featuring stories about the city on liberation day 60 years ago, told by historians and experts. Secretary of the Hanoi’s Party Committee, Pham Quang Nghi, said: “Based on the current economic growth rate, Hanoi in the next decade will see important changes in construction and planning. The capital city will diversify services with better quality to promote its role as a national center. I believe that Hanoi can become an attractive center of the region in the near future.”

Former Hanoi businessmen, civil servants, and laborers reviewed their participation in the city’s reconstruction after its liberation day in an art performance on Wednesday. Tran Van Thuc is Chairman of Hanoi municipal Labor Union: "60 years after its liberation day, Hanoi has never stopped changing, developing, and integrating into the world. This is attributed to significant contribution of businessmen, laborers, and people to the city’s development. This program aims to honor such efforts."

On this occasion, the Hanoi’s municipal authorities visited and presented gifts to more than 43.000 policy beneficiary families, intellectuals, and people who have rendered great services to the nation.
