(VNA) – The central highlands region has posted a GDP growth of 12.3% against the same period last year. At a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Tran Viet Hung, Deputy Director of the region’s steering committee, said that the agricultural production of the central highland provinces has comprehensively restructured its agricultural sector. Intensive farming, safe production methods, and modern technologies of cultivation have been applied to coffee, fruit, tea, flowers, and vegetables for export. Local authorities in the central highlands provinces have also paid more attention to improving the living conditions of ethnic minority groups, with 600,000 ethnic people issued with medical insurance cards, worth over 15 million USD. The central highlands steering committee will continue to focus on monitoring the state of rural infrastructure. It will assess land use, upgrade rural transports, manage the protection of forests, and develop coffee growing sustainably. The Committee will also provide consultancy for the Government, to provide specific policies and mechanisms for the region’s socio-economic development.
