This is an important exhibition because it reveals documents regarding Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos systematically and precisely. The event aims to raise the sense of unity and responsibility among Vietnamese people inside and outside the country, especially young people, in protecting national maritime sovereignty. Le Van Nghiem, Director of the Authority of Foreign Information Service of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said at a press briefing on the exhibition: “This exhibition is expected to be an important illustration of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos. We hope that millions of people will come to see the exhibits and understand that Vietnam has sufficient evidence to confirm its sovereignty over these archipelagos.”
The exhibition will feature 150 maps of Vietnam, China, and western nations as well as a number of items and publications mentioning Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagos. The exhibits cover the period from the early 17th century to the late 19th century, when Vietnam peacefully exercised its complete sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos. Worthy of note are copies of documents issued by Vietnamese feudal regimes from the 17th to the 20th centuries in Chinese, Chinese transcribed Vietnamese, Vietnamese, and French languages, and four Atlases published by China between 1908 and 1933.
