(VOVworld) – Vietnam National University in Hanoi held a ceremony to honor 8 outstanding female scientists whose research projects have been internationally recognized. On Thursday, the Women’s Union of Da Nang City commended its 10 prominent branches and launched an emulation movement for this year. Hai Phong City’s People’s Committee presented the “Le Chan” award to 7 outstanding women and honored outstanding staff members at the grassroots level for their work last year.

Bui Thi Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, said Vietnamese women account for half of the total population and labor force and play an important role in national defense, modernization, and industrialization. Hoa underlined the need to promote the role of women role in the new period: “This year, we plan to improve the union’s operation at the grassroots level and promote the movement to get families involved in new rural development and urban development. This campaign has been going on for years but this year, we will encourage greater involvement by women in solving their problems. We’ll also focus on social monitoring and criticism to contribute opinions to building up the Party and government.”
Hoa said the Vietnam Women’s Union, as a representative organization, will propose that the Party and government outline policies to help women.
