(VOVworld) – Khmer people in the southern province of An Giang are excited about celebrating their traditional New Year festival and this year, they’re particularly happy, thanks to efforts by local authorities to bring the ethnic policy of the Party and State to the Khmer community. Chau Chanh, a Khmer person resident of Châu Lăng commune, Tri Tôn district, said: “My biggest joy is greeting the festival with enough to eat and spend thanks to the care of the Party and State. I think this is a very exciting thing for the Khmer people”.
During the 3-day festival, which began on Sunday, Châu Lăng commune, Tri Ton district, will host the 9th festival of culture, sports, and tourism of the Khmer people in An Giang province. Đỗ Minh Trí is Deputy Head of Tri Ton district’s People’s Committee: “This year’s cultural festival and New Year festival are taking place at the same time. People are enthusiastically welcoming the festivals thanks to higher incomes from agricultural production”.
The festival will include cultural and art performances, a traditional fashion show, a food festival, exhibitions, and folk games.
