Lawmakers discuss amendments to 1992 Constitution
(VOVWorld)- National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has asked for a thorough analysis of the enforcement of the 1992 Constitution to remedy shortcomings. Mr. Hung made the remark at the second meeting of the Committee for drafting amendments to the Constitution that took place Tuesday in Hanoi.
Chairman Hung reiterated that amendments to the Constitution should meet the needs of Vietnam’s development process, anticipate regional and international trends, bring into play people’s democracy, and truly reflect the nature of a state of the people, by the people and for the people.
Mr. Hung stressed that the amendments should affirm the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the close bonds between the Party and the people, as well as create a strong impetus for national socio-economic, cultural, and educational development and meet renewal requirements in the coming years. The top legislator said priority should also be given to human rights and people’s rights and duties in law enforcement to consolidate national unity while fully tapping each individual’s potential for the sake of the country.
The draft amendments will be made available for public comment.
