(VOVworld) – A meeting to mark 38 years of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification and May Day was held in Ho Chi Minh city on Monday. Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan reviewed the country’s glorious history and revolution including the resistance war against US imperialists. Quan said that with its experience in construction and development, Ho Chi Minh city has confirmed its locomotive role in the national economy: “Ho Chi Minh city takes the lead in national industrialization and modernization and we are determined to make it a major economic, financial, and technological center not only of Vietnam but Southeast Asia. This will contribute to turning Vietnam into an industrialized nation by 2020.”

Over the past 38 years, the party, people, and youth union organizations of Ho Chi Minh city have been united to overcome difficulties, contributing significantly to the country’s overall economic growth. Tran Thanh Thao, Secretary of District 4’s Youth Union said: “Each and every member of the city’s youth union will try our best and be creative in finding solutions to make Ho Chi Minh a modern, civilized and friendly city.”
