(VOVworld) – Thousands of people in Hanoi took to the streets to welcome in the New Year on Tuesday. Performances were held in front of the Hanoi Opera House in praise of the Party and the nation in the New Year.

In Ho Chi Minh city, people gathered near Sai Gon river in district 2 and Phu My Hung urban center in district 7 to watch fireworks displays. Nguyen Hoai Nam was moved to say: “I’m very happy to witness the changing moment between the old and the new year. I wish everyone a happier and more prosperous year ahead.”

Can Tho city organized several performances to celebrate the new year and to mark 10 years of becoming a centrally-run city. Huynh Van Dung, owner of a flower shop, said: “Can Tho city is more beautiful now. I’m happy to see the city develop rapidly.”

Several activities were held in Da Nang to entertain local people and tourists including a festival called “I love Da Nang.” Phan Anh Dao, a student of Duy Tan University, said: “I hope that after graduating, I will be able to find a job. I wish the New Year would give me joy and success. I want to work in Da Nang because it has a good environment.”

Hoi An city in Quang Nam province organized a New Year gala with a series of activities, featuring its peculiar characteristics. In 2013, Hoi An received 6 titles of favorite tourist destination from both domestic and foreign travel organizations.
