Outstanding individuals in poverty reduction movements honored
(VOVworld) – A ceremony to honor outstanding individuals in poverty reduction movements was held in Hanoi on Saturday in the presence of President Truong Tan Sang and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh. The event was part of activities to celebrate the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for the nation to eliminate poverty and illiteracy and fight foreign invaders. Participants reviewed the implementation of the comprehensive strategy on growth and poverty reduction over the last 10 years. Vu Van Phuc, Editor in chief of the Communist Party Review said: “As Vietnam is advancing toward socialism and for the cause of a wealthy people, a strong country and a democratic, equitable and civilized society, we should work harder in reducing poverty and hunger. The ceremony today demonstrates our political determination to get rid of poverty.”
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has ranked Vietnam among the leading 38 countries that have completed the Millennium Development Goals on poverty reduction for the 1990-1992 and 2010-2012 periods.
