PM Dung attends ceremony to mark the 2012 International Year of Co-operatives

  (VOVworld)-The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance held a meeting in Hanoi on Saturday to celebrate the International Day of Co-operatives and the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives. The International Cooperative Alliance is a large organization with more than 750,000 cooperatives and nearly 1 billion individuals from 100 member countries.

It has contributed to poverty reduction, sustainable development and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goal. The theme for the International Year is also the theme for this International Day: ‘Co-operative enterprises build a better world’. Vietnam currently has some 19,500 cooperatives and 13 million members. They play an important role in rural development and job creation. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung:“To promote the renovation and development of cooperatives, we need to implement the Party resolutions on collective economic development. This should respect the cooperative principle and the Law on Cooperatives as well as members’ willingness while linking the cooperative development with national modernization and industrialization.”
