President Truong Tan Sang holds bilateral talks at APEC Summit

(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang and his delegation on Monday begin their activitieson the sidelines of the 21st summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC 21) forum in Bali, Indonesia.

At a meeting with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yuhoyono, President Sang praised and congratulated Indonesia on assuming APEC 2013’s chairmanship and successfully organizing APEC’s activities and the 9th meeting of the WTO Minister Conference, slated for this December in Bali. The two presidents agreed to continue their close coordination at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN and the UN. They reached a consensus, along with other ASEAN members, to complete the ASEAN community’s targets by 2015 and enhance the bloc’s unified role in regional security and development. During the meeting, the two countries’ foreign ministers signed an action program for the 2014-2018 period on implementing the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership.

During talks with Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sang congratulated Brunei’s successes during its ASEAN chairmanship in 2013, which contributed significantly to strengthening solidarity, and cooperation between ASEAN and its partners, raising the bloc’s prestige in the world. The two leaders agreed to all-out efforts to build the ASEAN community by 2015. They promised to implement the ASEAN six-point principles and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and complete the Code of Conduct in the East Sea between ASEAN and China.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperative opportunities in economics, trade, investment, agriculture, aquatic products, energy, oil and gas, and education and training. The two leaders said they will closely coordinate in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations to ensure that the TPP will be a balanced agreement that protects the interests of all ASEAN members.

Within the framework of the 21st APEC summit, President Sang attended the plenary meeting and dialogues with the APEC Business Advisory Council which included representatives from the world’s top business groups. Earlier, President Sang met with the leaders of 20 groups and companies representing the US-APEC Business Coalition.
