(VOVworld) – The annual conference on tourism for sustainable development in Vietnam took place in Hanoi on Friday.

The event, organized by the EU Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Project (EU-ESRT Project), delivered a message urging the entire sector to take action responsibly for sustainable development in Vietnam.

Participants reviewed the performance of the EU-ESRT project over the last six years and discussed directions to maintain its achievements by applying responsible tourism theory and practice.

Nguyen Van Tuan, Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Tourism, said at the conference that the growth in tourism means the generating of more jobs and the reduction of poverty in tourist destinations.

“The E-ESRT project has offered important foundations in terms of awareness, theory, and practical experience for Vietnam in preparation for speeding up the sector’s growth.  Responsible and sustainable tourism development is a goal and a key solution to make the hospitality industry a breakthrough,” said Tuan.
