US Congressman calls Vietnam Human Rights Act misguided
(VOVworld)- Eni Faleomavaega, a senior member of the House Asia Pacific Subcommittee of described the Vietnam Human Rights Act of 2012 (H.R 1410) passed this week by the US House of Representatives a misguided step. In a press release yesterday, the Congressman said he felt sorry because the bill was submitted by the Subcommittee for Africa, Global Health and Human Rights, not the Subcommittee for Asia-Pacific, which is responsible for supervising US policies for Vietnam. Faleomavaega said the bill was based on outdated information and fails to reflect Vietnam’s improvements in human rights protection. The bill runs counter to efforts to strengthen relations with Vietnam made by the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations.
