A Vietnamese delegation is attending the 9th session of the UNESCO Inter-governmental Committee for preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris on Thursday.

(VOVworld) – Vi-Dam folk songs meet all the criteria set by UNESCO to be recognized as a cultural heritage of humanity, says former Director-General of the Vietnamese Cultural Institute, Professor Nguyen Chi Ben: “The vitality of Vi Dam folk songs is reflected in their popularity, from lullabies for babies to fishing chants. These folk songs are often sung with the accents of people in the Nghe An and Ha Tinh regions. I think the values of Vi-Dam satisfy all of UNESCO’s criteria.
A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien, is attending the 9th session of the UNESCO Inter-governmental Committee for preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage that opened in Paris on Thursday. The meeting will examine Vietnam’s Vi-Dam folk singing application for UNESCO recognition as an intangible cultural heritage. If successful, Vi-Dam folk singing will become Vietnam’s 9th intangible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO.
