Vietnam aims to repatriate 10,000 martyr’s remains by 2015
(VOVworld)- President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan says that the search for and repatriation of martyr’s remains is a major task and responsibility of the Party, the people and the army. Nhan, who is also head of the National Steering Board for Search and Repatriation of Martyr’s Remains urged the board to review its organization and take effective measures to repatriate 10,000 remains by 2015, and collect 60% of the remains of soldiers for which there is information by 2020: “We have assigned 20 repatriation teams to work mainly in Laos and Cambodia who are also ready to undertake tasks in Vietnam’s border areas. We ask localities to consider organizing temporary repatriation teams and collaborate with the Ministry of Defense to jointly search for the soldiers’ remains”.
In the near future, the Steering Board will continue to collect and fine-tune data about martyrs and martyrs’ tombs, and martyr’s military units during the war to aid in the search and repatriation efforts.
