(VOVworld) - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced on Wednesday that Vietnam is among countries having fulfilled the international goals for hunger eradication and poverty reduction. FAO confirmed that 38 countries have met internationally-established targets including having the number of poor people by 2015. Vietnam succeeded in reducing the proportion of undernourished people in the 1990-1992 and 2010-2012 periods by half. FAO Director General Jose Graziano da Silva expressed his appreciation toward the success of these countries and said that they are leading the way to a better future. The countries will be honored in a ceremony organized by FAO in Rome on June 16. Graziano da Silva urged all countries to keep up the momentum toward completely eliminating hunger and poverty at the Zero Hunger Challenge initiative. The initiative was first launched by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon at last year's international conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil.
