Vietnam elected to World Heritage Committee

(VOVworld) – Vietnam on Tuesday for the first time won a seat in the General Assembly of States Parties to the 1972 World Heritage Convention, also known as the World Heritage Committee.
Vietnam was ranked among 11 most voted countries by securing 93 over 169 votes, exceeding 50% of votes needed to get the membership. This reflects Vietnam’s success and prestige in sustainable growth attached to cultural preservation.

Ambassador Duong Van Quang, Head of the Vietnamese mission to UNESCO, told a Paris-based VOV correspondent after the election that as a committee’s member, Vietnam will call for the implementation of the 1972 Convention in 190 member countries and jointly examine heritage dossiers submitted to the World Heritage Committee.
