Vietnam guarantees fundamental rights of people with disabilities
(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Sunday joined a walk in Ho Chi Minh city to mark Vietnam’s Day for People with Disabilities April 18th.
Prime Minister Dung said that the Party and State have issued appropriate policies to ensure the fundamental rights of people with disabilities and encourage their involvement in social life and economic development: “I call on ministries and sectors to continue to fine tune policies on people with disabilities in the areas of vocational training and employment, integration education, healthcare, and job generation. People with disabilities should be encouraged to work. Party committees at all levels should increase communications to raise people’s awareness of the disabled and work out policies to support them. International cooperation to support the disabled should also be stepped up.”
Vietnam has approximately 6.7 million people with disabilities, more than half of whom are women and 1.2 million are children. Close to 2.5 million people with disabilities receive monthly allowances.
